The Rangers boss believes the level of competition from all teams in the league campaign is incredibly exciting for Scottish football, and admitted he is glad to see Robbie Neilson’s side back in the Premiership ahead of their fixture tomorrow night.
He said: “I’m very pleased to see Hearts back in the top league because I thought they were unfairly treated during Covid. It’s great to see them back, they’ve started the season ever so well. Robbie [Neilson] has done a fantastic job, they’ve got a good team and good players.
“They’ve recruited very well and almost built on the confidence and consistency of last season and brought that into the Premiership.
“It’s no surprise that they have started well but my focus has been on us, we’re on the back of a top result just before the international break and we’re going to be looking to put some distance between us and Hearts.”
Gerrard added that the competition so far in the league is exciting as the clubs compete for top position, while he also addressed the ongoing Covid issues being faced by every team in the league.
He continued: “We welcome that challenge, it’s more exciting for the league and for Scottish football with more teams that are fighting for the title. I think every club, manager, players and set up are all working through difficult times with Covid. I’m sure every manager will echo my words in saying you’ve got to be prepared for curveballs coming at any given moment.
“It is difficult in terms of team preparations as players can be taken away from you at any point with testing still going on. It’s been a challenge for everyone, and it is no surprise that the top sides in the league are all bunched together up the top.
“From a neutral point of view, I think that’s very exciting but from my point of view I wish we were further out in front.”
