Fil Helander’s strike nine minutes before half-time cancelled out an early opener for the hosts to level the tie ahead of the Govan meeting.
Speaking to RangersTV in the Czech capital, Gerrard explained: "I'm really pleased with the players in-terms of the effort and what they have given to the game.
"Again, they have put their bodies on the line and I think, overall, it is probably a fair result. They have had some chances and we have had some chances.
"I thought we started poorly, were second best and took our time really coming to the game but once we settled, I thought we more than matched them and certainly deserved to take something away from the game.
"The biggest positive is the away goal where the tie sits right now.
"Once we started getting some belief in the game, we settled and started making more passes.
"This was a real, British-type game against a strong team and a powerful team who like to play at a high-intensity.
"We never made enough passes in the opening minutes, but once we started making passes we got some success and some joy, and we grew into the game and got a lot better and certainly deserved to get back in the game.
"What we have given to the game, on the back of the week we have had, I can't ask for any more."
That Gers are level ahead of the second leg is down, in no small part, to Allan McGregor who made a quite ridiculous save in the final minute of normal time.
Steven Gerrard was thrilled with his goalkeeper, and also the youngest Ger in the starting XI tonight, Nathan Patterson, who had a super match.
He continued: "You are singing Greegs' praises all the time and that is a good thing as he makes top, top saves.
"But at the same time, we may need to look at why he is making these saves too many times.
"Young Nathan became a man tonight. It was the biggest game of his career, he has had the biggest couple of weeks of his life, so to post that type of performance for his age, I think he played with maturity and got some real, good blocks on with the body on the line and he has shown since he has come into the team he is more than capable of being a big Rangers player for many years to come.
"He just needs to keep learning, keep listening, and he will be fine."
Gers now have a whole week to prepare for that second leg, and Gerrard added: "The tie is nicely balanced and we are pleased with the away goal. We want to keep a clean sheet next week and go to the floor.
"We will be more prepared and more ready because we will have a calmer week, but there is still tonnes of work to do as they are a good team."
