Goals from Holly Napier, Carla Boyce, Daina Bourma and Clare Gemmell edged Rangers to victory.
Clear-cut chances were few and far between in the opening stages of the game as both sides looked for a break-through.
Motherwell were first to have a shot on target as Claire Adams tried her luck at goal from a free-kick on the edge of the box but it was saved comfortably by Chloe Nicolson.
Rangers came close to breaking the deadlock on the 20th minute as Daina Bourma saw her shot blocked before Chelsie Watson’s effort was diverted out for a corner.
The Gers opened the scoring on the 25th minute as Carla Boyce’s header towards goal was tapped in at the post by Holly Napier.
Just after the half-hour mark Rangers continued to threaten as Chantelle Brown shot from outside the box but her dipping effort was saved by the Motherwell goalkeeper.
Brown had another shot at goal just a few minutes later as Emma Brownlie swung a free-kick into the box from the by-line which landed well for the Rangers number 11 but her powerful effort from the edge of the box was curled just wide of the target.
Gregory Vignal’s side did have a second just five minutes before the break as Daina Bourma’s cross was diverted towards goal by captain Clare Gemmell.
Gemmell’s shot was blocked by Motherwell keeper Morgan Hunter, but only as far as Carla Boyce who was there to tap home.
Motherwell had an effort just before the break as Chelsea Mceachran shot from distance but her effort was saved.
Rangers came out strong in the second-half and had a chance early on as Daina Bourma done well to win the ball back down the left before finding Clare Gemmell and cutting back to Chantelle Brown but her shot was saved by the Motherwell keeper.
The Gers were reduced to 10 players on the 58th minute as Chantelle Brown was shown a straight-red for an incident off the ball.
Just two minutes later Motherwell had a goal back as the ball broke for Rachel Connor on the left and she drove towards goal before curling past Chloe Nicolson.
Rangers added a third on the 67th minute with some great build-up play. Clare Gemmell beat the defenders with her flick to Carla Boyce who played the ball out wide to Daina Bourma.
Bourma took a touch inside the box before firing a powerful shot beyond Morgan Hunter.
Motherwell got the deficit back down to a goal as they netted their second with 15 minutes to go. Chelsea Mceachran saw her shot saved by Nicolson in the Rangers goal but landed only as far as Abby Callaghan who made no mistake from close range.
Clare Gemmell resorted the Gers’ two goal advantage as she headed home a fantastic cross into the box by Emma Brownlie on the 83rd minute.
However, Motherwell were back in it with three minutes remaining as Abby Callaghan got her second of the evening for the visitors but Rangers held out for the three points.
