The Rangers captain has been in terrific form this season and, as the Light Blues prepare to take on Ross County in the league on Sunday, he will be hoping to add to the seven goals he has scored in his last seven games, a sensational return for a defender.
Gerrard, speaking at the club’s training centre today, was delighted to see his in-form right-back presented with a thoroughly deserved award from the SPFL. He said: "I think Tav has come back really hungry.
“He's had a really strong pre-season under his belt so physically he's looking like the powerhouse that we all know he can be.
“He's playing with confidence and with a smile on his face and he's certainly back to his best.
After last night’s sensational 2-1 Europa League play-off victory over Galatasaray, Gerrard’s attention has already turned to Sunday’s important league match against Ross County at Ibrox and the three important points that are up for grabs.
He added: “We just need to focus on the next challenge which comes on the back of a big European night when we've had to give a lot and we've had to leave a lot on the pitch.
“So the important thing now is to try and recover and get the players in the right frame of mind from a mental point of view, but also from a physical point of view.
“We want to try and take maximum points and we want to try and do it playing with our style. We also want to try and get a breakthrough as early as we can and take the three points.
“The league is the league and we want to stay at the top for as long as we can, but no one will be getting carried away however the table looks after the game on Sunday."
Gerrard also provided an injury update ahead of the weekend’s fixture. He added: "We've got a few with a few kicks, bumps and bruises from last night, but no one that we are majorly concerned with for the weekend.
"[Ryan] Jack obviously came through last night with no problems, Cedric as well. Brandon Barker is out there training today so we are getting healthier and hopefully at the weekend there will still only be three missing which will be Katic, Roofe and Joe Aribo.
"So we are getting healthier and stronger which is good news."
