The captain’s second-half strike was the difference as Philippe Clement’s men lifted the trophy for the 28th time in the club’s history, and for the first time since 2010/11.
Speaking to RangersTV, Tavernier reflected on his trophy winning goal, he said: “At half-time I said to John Souttar that Ross McCausland had got into the back post a few times and that was an opportunity for us.
“In the second half with Dujon in the midfield I could rely on him to sit a little bit and I saw Borna getting to the byline. I didn’t take the best of touches, but it went in the air, and I took it as quickly as I could, and it went into the back of the net. I am delighted with that.”
Tavernier believes this could be the start of something special for the club as they look to continue to drive for success moving forward this season.
He continued: “The win was long overdue, and we are building something special here with the squad we have.
“This is the start of a lot of success for the club, I believe. We have to go game by game and we have an important game on Wednesday.
“We will enjoy it but we will be fully focused on that.”
