The skipper was influential at Hampden netting the opening goal from the penalty spot, before a stunning free-kick later in the second-half to make it six goals in six games for the right-back. Despite his fine personal form, Tavernier said he is happier with the growth of the squad in recent weeks.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “It is enjoyable when you can get on the scoresheet, but it has been more enjoyable keeping clean sheets. Obviously, we conceded today from the penalty, but it has been enjoyable being strong at the back and being strong as a team in general.
“Being hard to beat is probably the most pleasing thing for me and we have just got to keep pushing ourselves, keep demanding and we are only going to get better with time.
“We wanted to put ourselves into the final and I thought we played really well today. In the first-half we tried to ask the questions but they were really resilient, they tried to load the ball in the box at any given time but I thought we dealt with it really well.
“In the second-half we got an early penalty and I thought we went from strength to strength and it was a good performance from the boys.
“The boys are all tuning into what the Gaffer wants and it is really showing on the pitch. We are only going to go from strength to strength with the games coming up, but I am delighted that we are in the final but obviously it is an important game on Thursday now.”
When asked about the recent form, which has seen Rangers net 14 goals in the past five matches, Tavernier says it is important the squad continue to push each other.
He added: “I think everyone is getting a lot of confidence playing with each other. All the lads are chipping in with goals and it is really good to see. You are getting players back from injury and it was great to see Tom [Lawrence] back on the pitch today.
“That is what we need, we need the full squad back and the way the manager wants the boys that are coming back in a state of really good fitness which will help them in the long term, so it is good. We have just got to keep pushing hard, keep doing what he is telling us to do and just push each other every single day on the training pitch.”
Looking ahead to Thursday evening’s huge UEFA Europa League match against Sparta Prague, Tavernier added: “We have got a really important game against Prague at home, so we have obviously got to use our fans and our home ground to make it a fortress and it is an important three points that we need to help us in the group.
“Our full focus now is to get the recovery in and prepare for Thursday.”
