The Gers drew 3-3 away to BSC Young Boys in Switzerland three weeks ago and Murty said they believe they should have come away from Bern with an even better result.
The sides meet again this week at Firhill, with Rangers just edging the tie as it stands on away goals.
Murty said: “We are really looking forward to the game because we thought that we actually should’ve come away with an even better result when we were over there in Switzerland.
“It is a great mindset for them to be in and a good mindset for the coaches to see them in, we just have to make sure that we channel those energies and that frustration into a positive way and we really hope we can get a positive result.”
Murty says organisation and structure will be key for his naturally attacking side as they head into the second-leg.
He explained: “We have talked to the guys about managing their expectations and managing the game. Part of their development is understanding when you have to press the game and when you don’t.
“It is in our history and it’s in the nature of the teams that we produce but they need to understand that whilst doing that we need to be secure at the back because if we have a clean sheet we go through in the tie.
“In that regard it is no different from any other prep, there is just the possible reward at the end of it for the guys to appreciate.”
It is the first time Rangers have competed in the competition after qualifying by winning last years Under-18’s League, and Murty says playing under pressure is another experience for his players.
He added: “It is good because pressure only comes when you acknowledge the possibility of failure and they have to deal with it.
“Some of them will find it difficult but we don’t mind that, we are actually really relaxed about it as a staff because we know there is good support for the guys to talk to.
“We are trying to get through, and hopefully we do get through, but if we don’t we will give lessons back to the players and they will develop.
“We hope we will have another opportunity to develop further in this competition and see where this takes these young players on their journey because that is what it is about, it is not ultimately about just wanting to progress it is about making sure we continue their progression in their career.”
