This Week's Loan Review

RANGERS have a number of players out on loan across the Men's, Women’s and Academy sides at present, and here’s our review of how each of those in action fared over the weekend.

Findlay Curtis – Kilmarnock

Findlay started for Killie as they fell to defeat against Hibernian at Easter Road on Saturday afternoon.

The young winger, fresh off making his international debut for Scotland last month, had the ball in the back of the net in the first-half before VAR intervened and identified an offside in the build-up to the goal.

Lyall Cameron – Midfielder – Aberdeen

Lyall was a second half substitute for Aberdeen as they tasted defeat to St. Mirren away from home.

The on-loan midfielder featured for the final 25 minutes as the north-east outfit were unable to find a route back into the contest.

Ross McCausland – Winger – Aris Limassol

Ross was an unused substitute for Aris as they lost out against APOEL Nicosia.

It was the second time inside a month that Ross’ side have tasted defeat to APOEL as they look to bounce back to winning ways in their next outing.

Clinton Nsiala – Defender – Westerlo

Clinton, meanwhile, was an unused substitute on his return to the squad against Royal Charleroi.

The defender had been missing in recent weeks through suspension and will hope to reclaim his spot in the starting lineup in the play-offs.

Jose Cifuentes – Midfielder – Toronto FC

Jose started once again as Toronto FC produced an impressive away win over Colorado Rapids.

The Ecuadorian played in an advanced midfield role and has been a strong performer for the Canadian outfit this term.

Oscar Cortes – Winger – CA Huracan

Oscar started and provided an assist for CA Huracan in their 3-0 away victory over Gimnasia.

The winger played 80 minutes for his side and teed up their second goal just beyond the hour-mark in an impressive individual showing.

Leon King – Defender – Ayr United

Leon was absent through injury for Ayr United.

The defender was forced off against Greenock Morton last month and will hope to play a crucial role before the end of the campaign for the Honest Men.

Paul Nsio – Midfielder – Raith Rovers

Paul started for Raith Rovers as they lifted the KDM Evolution Trophy with a 4-1 triumph over Inverness.

Firhill was the stage for the final as the midfielder produced an impressive showing in the engine room to help his side get their hands on silverware.

Calum Adamson – Midfielder – Alloa Athletic

Calum was suspended for Alloa Athletic as they recorded a vital away win over Cove Rangers.

Instead, the 18-year-old started for Rangers Under-19s in their 4-2 defeat to Hibernian yesterday afternoon, netting the opener before laying on Max Cameron in the second half.

Callum Burnside – Winger – Alloa Athletic

After returning from international duty with Northern Ireland Under-21s, Callum started for Alloa in the triumph.

The winger has been a chief source of goals for the Wasps this season, netting a recent hat-trick against Montrose.

Josh Gentles – Forward – Alloa Athletic

Josh is currently absent for Alloa after sustaining an injury against Queen of the South in February that will sideline the forward for a period of time.

Lewis Stewart – Winger – Alloa Athletic

Lewis, meanwhile, started for the Wasps in the victory in the north-east.

It was a priceless three points for the Wasps who remain in position to finish in the play-off spots.

Zander Hutton – Defender – Hamilton Academical

Zander started for Hamilton as they fell to a 3-0 defeat to high-flying Stenhousemuir away from home.

It has been a difficult campaign for the Lanarkshire outfit but the young full-back will be all the better for the experience having featured prominently this season.

Jack Wyllie - Defender - Kelty Hearts

Jack was an unused substitute for Kelty as they earned a creditable point against Queen of the South.

The defender was then involved for Rangers Under-19s in yesterday’s CAS Elite League Cup clash in Milngavie.

Arran Kerr – Defender – Stirling Albion

Arran, in the meantime, was among the substitutes for Stirling Albion as they lost out to Clyde at New Douglas Park.

Like Jack, he was given the nod from the off for Gers Under-19s against Hibs yesterday, playing the full 90 minutes.

Connor Campbell - Defender - Stirling Albion

Connor started for the Binos in the defeat in Lanarkshire.

He played on the left-hand side of the defence in a campaign where the teenager has played in a variety of positions for the League Two side.

Alexander Smith – Midfielder – Dumbarton

Alexander recorded his fourth assist in just six appearances for the Sons as they played out a 1-1 draw with Stranraer.

The young midfielder has been in terrific form for the League Two outfit this campaign and was recently rewarded with a maiden Scotland Under-19s call-up, where he scored for his country.

Alfie Halliwell – Goalkeeper – Albion Rovers

Alfie was among the substitutes for Albion Rovers in their victory over Celtic B at the weekend.

It made it four wins from their last five for the Lowland League outfit as the goalkeeper looks to re-establish his place between the posts in the weeks ahead.

Blaine McClure – Midfielder – Nottingham Forest Under-21s

Blaine started for Nottingham Forest Under-21s and grabbed an assist in their 2-0 win over Crystal Palace.

After captaining Northern Ireland Under-19s recently, the midfielder continued his fine form at club level with a second assist in as many outings.

Telma Ivarsdottir – Goalkeeper- Inter Milan

Telma was on the bench in Inter’s last two outings in recent weeks. They firstly dropped out of the Coppa Italia at the semi-final stage last weekend before responding with a 5-2 league win over Lazio on Saturday afternoon.

The goalkeeper is yet to make her debut for the Serie A club having joined on loan back in January, but will hope to play a part in the run-in towards the end of the season after the international break.


Sophie Townsley – Striker – Motherwell

Sophie started and played a pivotal role in Motherwell’s weekend win over Hamilton as she provided two assists in their 4-0 success.

The forward, facing her former side she spent the first half of the season on loan at, set up the first two goals as Iain Robinson’s team headed into the break on a high with a third straight win.

Mia McArthur – Midfielder- Motherwell

Mia was not involved in the side’s win in East Kilbride as they condemned their opponents to relegation with the victory.

Alongside Sophie, the midfielder will now join up with Scotland Under-19s during the break as they seek qualification to this summer’s European Championship finals.

Natalie Bandura – Striker – Spartans

It has been a busy and productive week for Natalie and Spartans as they cut the gap at the top of SPWPL 2 with back-to-back victories.

Firstly, she earned a start in their Wednesday win over Dundee United, before she was in the side again for their 3-0 success over Gartcairn on Sunday afternoon.

CaCee McKenna – Defender – Spartans

CaCee was introduced as a substitute in their midweek win before a start followed on Sunday as they claimed two 3-0 victories on the bounce.

The results have propelled Spartans to within seven points of leaders Kilmarnock as they head to the run-in following the international break.

Sophie Rutherford – Winger- Queen’s Park

Sophie was in the Spiders’ lineup on both occasions as they played out two fixtures in Scotland’s second tier over the past week.

They firstly fell to a slender 1-0 defeat in Ayrshire to the league leaders, before responding with a two-goal win over Dundee United on Sunday afternoon.

Lucy Livie – Winger- Boroughmuir Thistle

Lucy was introduced as a 63rd minute substitute as Boroughmuir played out a 1-1 draw with Gartcairn in midweek.

She was not involved at the weekend due to an injury picked up in training but the Edinburgh side claimed an impressive three points by overcoming table toppers Killie 3-2 at Meadowbank.

Rebecca Simpson – Defender – Gartcairn

Rebecca earned successive starts for Gartcairn as they were also in action on two occasions over the past week.

They first played out a score draw with Boroughmuir, before falling to a 3-0 defeat in the capital to Spartans on Sunday.

Alba Stewart – Midfielder- Gartcairn

Alba registered her third goal for the Airdrie based club as she put her side ahead before they were pegged back in their 1-1 draw on Wednesday night.

Another start followed in their defeat at Ainslie Park, with Graeme Hart’s team in sixth place heading into the break having made the top half of the split.
