Thomson: Controlled Performance Secured The Points

A ‘controlled’ performance from Rangers helped secure all three points against Hearts in the Park’s Motor Group SWPL this afternoon, according to boss Malky Thomson.

Thomson was pleased with the first-half display from his players and how they dealt with second-half challenges as they won 5-0 at Oriam.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “I thought in the first-half we were excellent, the girls really applied themselves well and stuck to the game plan.

“You could see the amount of possession we had and the change of direction we put with the ball was giving them problems.

“Hearts sat a bit deeper in the second-half, they probably had a talk at half-time where they knew if they over-committed we would kill them in the wider areas so they sat in and made it a bit more difficult but I think overall we totally controlled the game.”

Thomson was happy with the effort of the whole squad but says they will continue to work on being more clinical in front of goal.

He continued: “We have had two or three good opportunities that we should be scoring and we are not scoring so that's something we'll need to improve on.

“We spoke about it among the group and it is really vital for the amount of possession we do have that we are ferocious in front of goal and score.

“It's great that we can utilise Chelsea Cornet who I thought had a great game again. We moved Chelsea back into right-back and then we managed to get the three younger ones that have been around the group.

“It was great for Janni [Arnth] too and you can see she has got quality and it's not just what you see on the pitch it is everything she does away from the pitch helping the younger ones.”
