It was a hard-fought victory for Rangers as goals from Kirsten Reilly and Lizzie Arnot saw them come away from Alliance Park with a 2-1 win.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, Thomson said: “I have just spoken to the group there just now and I have total admiration for them. We went in at half-time 2-0 up and in total control of the game and to lose the goal in the second-half gave Motherwell a lift and put a bit of nerves in us.
“I thought we could've probably handled the ball a bit better and kept playing but it is three points - that is what we came here for and it is what we got.
“We had good movement and total domination in the first-half and even in the second-half we created a couple of chances where we probably should score and put the game out of Motherwell's reach however that is the nature of it.
“It is a tight pitch here and it's difficult circumstances but as I said I have admiration for the full group - not just the eleven that start but the subs, you can see we are starting to get players back and the competition levels are really high.”
Thomson praised the performance of Kirsten Reilly who opened the scoring after five minutes showing determination to win the ball back before slotting home.
He was pleased with the midfielder’s defensive contribution this afternoon too, adding: “What Kirsten Reilly did in that game was great, her defensive qualities were good sitting in front of the two centre backs and protecting it and I am absolutely delighted to get the result here.”
Attention now turns to a top of the table clash next week as Rangers edge ever closer to securing the SWPL 1 title.
Thomson said preparations will remain the same for the group ahead of a big week. He continued: “We will recap and analyse this performance and we will prepare and get detail ready for Glasgow City. We will just go about it the exact same way as we have from the start of the campaign.”
