Fresh off an international break the Light Blues travel to the Excelsior Stadium as they take on rivals Celtic in their return to SWPL action.
Speaking to the media at the press conference ahead of the fixture the manager wants his team to show the hunger they have all season as they look to leapfrog their Friday opponents in the table with victory.
He said: “We are in such a positive mood here, we are now at the stage where we actually look forward to playing against the likes of Celtic and Glasgow City.
“The experience that the girls have gained from early on in the season, winning the league last year and being in a position where they can go and perform in that platform is something that has made them all hungry.
“None more so than in training today, this is a special game Rangers v Celtic at any level, whether it's at youth level or men's first team, it is a fantastic occasion and world renowned just with everything that goes with it.”
Thomson admits the build up to the fixture have been slightly altered due to several of his players being on international duty but wants them to approach the contest in the right manner and take the opportunities they create on the night.
He continued: “What will stand us in good stead is the attitude and the application of the girls, this week has been different to any other week with the internationals.
“The first training session that we had this week minus the international girls, the intensity level was high, the hunger and the desire to start the week off properly was high.
“The girls have come back and trained this morning and put another successful training session together.
“There is hunger, desire and passion, we have just got to make sure that we bring to this game some goals and finish off chances once we create them.”
The manager is relishing the special occasion the Old Firm brings and has challenged his side to handle that when they face the team just a point above them in the league standings tomorrow night.
He added: “Rangers and Celtic games are special, no matter if one team is clear ahead or they are nip and tuck, it doesn't matter.
“The main objective is that both teams are always wanting to beat their rivals, that is one thing that we need to contain with is the special day that this tie recreates.”
Thomson feels his side are always looking for ways they can improve and feels they have prepared the best way possible as the teams get ready to go head to head in Airdrie.
He said: “In every game that we play we always take aspects out of it, whether we win the game we are always looking deeper into the layers of how can we get better as a team.
“Finishing is one of the aspects of play that we are trying to improve in, because we create so many chances, what is the reason that we don't quite convert as highly as we possibly should, but it comes down to the opposition that we are playing and what is round about the game.
“There are lots of aspects that we work on in terms of that, going into this game we have prepared the best we can and we are looking forward to it simply because it is Rangers and Celtic.”
