It was a performance worthy of the five-star rating from the young Gers, with three of the goals scored by players aged 17 or under.
The Light Blues were in a commanding position at the half-time interval and they never once relented after the resumption in the second period.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Thomson commented: “We’re pleased with the respect we gave ourselves and to the opposition.
“We played real good football which culminated in scoring five good goals.
“We knew that they would play to their strengths and we would have to deal with balls coming up to our back four.
“We spoke briefly at half-time about not dropping too deep and inviting them onto us, and I think second half we held a higher line and we managed to get the ball forward into opportunities to score.
“I thought some of the goals we scored were great and we managed to get some real good combination play, then we played with a speed and intent to get the ball flashed across the face of goal.”
Stenhousemuir of League One await in the last 16 of the competition for the young Gers, who are the only B Team remaining in the competition.
It caps off a positive evening for Gers B, with 16-year-old Aiden McCallion also making his debut for the side after impressing with Steven Smith’s Under-18s side this campaign.
Thomson added: “It’s pleasing for Aiden because I believe he had 20 minutes in a bounce game for the first-team against Motherwell.
“It’s deservedly so that he got an opportunity tonight given the performances he’s been putting in at youth level.
“David [McCallum] and I are always looking towards the younger ones and getting them through.
“It’s important that we’re looking to the vision of the younger ones and getting them into this B Team group for the experience.
“On the next round? It will be a different dynamic to that game and a real tough game for us, but if we go about our preparation properly, have a game plan, and put it into practice, then why can’t we get a result?”
