The Rangers boss was delighted with his side’s winning performance this afternoon and emphasised the importance to utilise his team across different matches.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV after the squad progressed in the tournament, he said: “I think it’s really pleasing; we spoke to the team about control and maintaining control, and I think they did that.
"We had five changes to our team, but it’s not really changes for us, it’s personnel that are as good as the others who they have replaced.
"I’m really, really delighted by the fact that we’ve actually managed to put five graduate youth players on that pitch tonight and won quite convincingly.
“Development is key, winning is the ultimate goal to win every game we compete in but to manage to combine that with playing youth players; we’re really fortunate in a sense that with the training facility, the girls do partake in training sessions; but it’s out there playing with the likes of Chelsea Cornett, who I thought was fantastic tonight, Lisa Martinez.
"I could start going through the whole team - the experience they gain from playing with these players will stand them in good stead for the future.”
Thomson reflected on the squad’s convincing performance today as the team look ahead to the next draw on Tuesday afternoon.
He continued: “They played with freedom. Once they managed to score, the whole team just plays with an absolute freedom, and it becomes easier and in a sense that’s normal for any team that plays.
"We spoke about control and right from the start of the game they had a control on the game, and they maintained the control. I can’t praise them enough.
“They know the job, they’re professional players, professional elite athletes and they’ve bought into what Rangers Football Club about. It’s an absolute team effort, we’ll utilise the full squad which is why we’ve got the squad, and we have confidence and belief in each other, staff and players.
"If you look at them just now, you’ve got Craig MacPherson, Nic Hardie, Faye Bennet, and Ashley Sweeney doing a training session just now for the other ones to top them up so that they are ready for Wednesday.
“Yes, it’s great it’s so exciting. I think the key bit is there’s an energy and an enthusiasm to come to training, to get better as a person, to get better as a player so that enthusiasm is helping us motor on.”
