In a closely fought encounter the Light Blues were limited to few chances throughout the game before Brogan Hay volleyed home what proved to be the match winner just past the hour mark.
Speaking to RangersTV after the game the manager was happy with the patience his side showed to find the breakthrough and claim three points in Edinburgh.
He said: “Patience has got a lot to do with it and belief has got a lot to do with it as well, I am extremely pleased with the attitude of the full squad.
“There were a lot of experienced players on the bench there, and there were a lot of younger ones starting the game, for Rangers Football Club, myself and the team as a whole it is a big three points, a well-fought and earned three points.”
The manager hailed the impact of his substitutions as Lizzie Arnot and Brogan Hay combined to produce the only goal of the game.
He continued: “We really struggled to get any kind of penetration and get balls into areas where we could create chances.
“I don't think we created a lot of chances in the game but both substitutions with Brogan and Lizzie coming on gave us that attacking threat down the wider areas and it paid dividends with Lizzie getting the cross in for Brogan to score.”
Thomson was pleased with the attitude of the squad overall and was happy the players that did come on were able to make the difference on the day.
He added: “The players know that they need to contribute, you work all week in training in the preparation for the game, you must when you come on or whether you start that game have a positive contribution to make sure the team get the three points.
“I thought the attitude of the players on the bench was exceptional.”
The Gers made it two wins in a row with the victory and the manager hopes they can carry on building momentum as they head into the final game before the split next weekend.
He said: “We have got to make sure momentum carries on and the positivity round about it does as well, and that the competitive edge is in them and the desire as well, if we can keep that momentum going we will look forward to going into the split.”
