The Gers boss reflected on Wednesday evening’s victory in the league campaign against Debbi McCulloch’s side but believes it wasn’t their best performance despite attaining another valuable three points.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV following their win last night, he said: “We came here to get the three points; it was very difficult on the back of a two-game week. The performance levels weren’t great however the team showed what they’re about – they’re resilient and got the job done.
“I think tonight we lacked a togetherness in possession and the final actions of the passes were a bit slack, but I thought defensively we were solid, we were never in any real danger to lose a goal, but the girls know that the performance need to be better than that.
“A goal in six minutes, we’ve had a good structure and balance of what we’re about and credit to Spartans they were well organised and hard to beat.”
Thomson recognised the challenges posed by the Edinburgh side on the Broadwood pitch last night but insisted the most important takeaway was gaining three points as they prepare for Dundee United in their next league match at the weekend.
He added: “They came off the back of knocking out Celtic in the [Sky Sports] Cup as well so they’re confidence levels were high. Every game that we play is going to have different challenges to it, the pleasing thing about the team tonight is that they were able to step up to those challenges to get the job done.
“It was difficult in the way that they were defending and to break them down, I think what was key was that we stuck to our tasks and the concentration levels were high albeit our final passing quality wasn’t great.
“We’ll have a two-day lead into the Dundee United game and analyse what we’ve seen tonight to put into practice for the weekend. Every game that the team play and are involved in, we are learning all the time – we got the result, the two goals and the three points.”
