Thomson: Team Have Returned With New Level of Enthusiasm

FRESH from the winter break, Malky Thomson says his side have returned with a new level of enthusiasm as they prepare for Sunday’s Scottish Women’s Cup tie against Stenhousemuir.

The Gers boss believes the break was important for the players to rest both physically and mentally but says they are now raring to go this weekend.

Speaking exclusively to RangersTV ahead of the match, he said: “I think they have been champing at the bit to come back given our form up to the break. We have been playing some good football and to be honest we probably would've liked the momentum to carry on however, they have come back with a really positive attitude and it has been great for them mentally to have the break.

“Their attitude has been superb, it has always been good but there is a real kind of enthusiasm since they have come back. It has come through straight from day one and I think that should stand us in good stead going forward.”

Sunday’s match will be the Gers first of this season’s Scottish Women’s Cup as they enter the competition in the third round.

Thomson says reviewing footage of the Championship South side has been beneficial in preparation as the Light Blues learn as much as they can about their opponents.

He continued: “I think it will be a tough match for us, when you represent Rangers you are expected to win no matter who the opposition is or the competition.

“We have managed to get bits and bobs on them, nowadays you can access footage of opposition quite easily and Michael [Gallacher] has been really diligent in his job and he has managed to source a few games so that has been beneficial for us in our preparation.

“The cup games give you a break from the league and it is a different dynamic, it is a one off game and you must win so it definitely brings a different dimension.”

Rangers kick-off their first match of 2022 against Stenhousemuir at 2pm on Sunday afternoon.
