The Ibrox crowd roared the Gers to an important 2-1 victory over Sparta Prague as a first-half blitz from Philippe Clement’s side yielded goals from Danilo and Cantwell.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, the 25-year-old reflected on another momentous evening at Ibrox: “The group was really tight, so to get that win is really important.
“The fans feed off us and we feed off them. It’s like a love story.
“We gave 100 percent at the start of the game; our game plan was perfect, and I thought it worked really well. They reacted to what they saw and that was really important.
“There’s no secret how powerful that is here. The fans have been amazing through a very tough period, and they are now starting to get their rewards.
“I think they are optimistically looking forward and they deserve to do that.”
After netting the opener to break the deadlock in the 12th minute, Danilo turned provider for Cantwell to net his first goal of the campaign with a smart left-footed finish.
The duo certainly milked the acclaim of the Rangers support at the end of the game, with a burgeoning relationship off the pitch beginning to bear fruit on the pitch.
He continued: “It’s been a tough start for me personally. The manager who brought me here got dismissed and I had a pretty interesting injury.
“It’s difficult because when you come back you expect to be at the level you were at before you got injured but you’re not. I was really happy to score the goal tonight and I feel like I’m growing in a better place.
“We instantly had a relationship on the pitch, and from one of the first training sessions I could tell we were going to play well together.
“To be out there tonight, playing in big games, and to be able to do it together, is really important. And off the pitch as well we got on really well, which definitely helps.”
