ROBBIE Ure says he was pleased to net a double as Rangers B collected all three points with a 2-1 victory over Gretna 2008 in the Lowland League last night.
The forward opened the scoring inside ten minutes for the Light Blues before delivering a last gasp winning goal deep into stoppage time, turning home Ross McCausland’s cross from close range.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Ure admits he was delighted to get on the scoresheet but conceded that the team fell below their usual high standards: “As a team we’re happy to win the game. We would have liked to do in more entertaining style in terms of more goals and it being more comfortable, but when you’re not playing to the capabilities that you know you can as a team, it’s important to get the three points. Individually, I’m very happy with two goals tonight.
“James Graham does well to get into his situation for the first goal and he puts it on a plate for me, while Ross McCausland does the same for me for the second goal. I’m happy however I score. I’m grateful to my teammates, putting the ball in areas makes it easier for me.
“I feel like I’m pushing every day to try and improve. I feel that I’m in a good place at the moment and I’m in good form. I’m scoring most games at the moment, but it’s about never getting too high. It’s about trying to develop each day and making sure I score more.”
The young Gers suffered a setback midway through the second half when the visitors converted from the penalty spot, and Ure insists it was a relief that his side managed to breach the Gretna defence in the last seconds of the game.
He continued: “We have to [be persistent] the minute it goes to 1-1. Fair play to Gretna who gave us a good game tonight and defended well. We had to keep going and get that winner, and fortunately for us it came in the last minute.
“It’s obviously a big boost [to score late in the game]. Hopefully we can kick on into the next game and keep the morale high.”
