December heralded the first piece of silverware for Philippe Clement’s side this campaign as they triumphed over Aberdeen at Hampden in the Viaplay Cup final, just three days after sealing their progression to the Europa League knockout stages with a memorable victory in Seville.
The following players are up for nomination:
John Lundstram – The midfielder has been praised for his leadership both on and off the pitch by Clement in recent weeks.
Although injury ended his run of successive starts under the manager away to Motherwell on Christmas Eve, the 29-year-old continues to lead by example with his guile and energy in midfield.
James Tavernier – It was a captain’s contribution which ended the club’s wait for League Cup success in December.
The Gers Hall of Famer continues to be a beacon of consistency for the Light Blues, netting four times across the month of December.
Jack Butland – The England international continues to be worth his weight in gold between the posts after arriving in Glasgow over the summer.
Helping himself to five clean sheets in December, the 30-year-old made a string of important saves in Seville to help the Gers seal Europa League football after Christmas.
Dujon Sterling – The 24-year-old emerged as a driving force in midfield for the Light Blues last month.
After being introduced as a second-half substitute in the victory over Real Betis, the Englishman started and played the full 90 minutes as Clement’s men tasted League Cup success.
Abdallah Sima – The 22-year-old began the month with a brace against St. Mirren and ended it celebrating a call-up to the Senegal squad for the African Cup of Nations.
And it was no more than the forward merited having also netted crucial strikes against Hearts, Dundee and Real Betis.
