Westrup: We Have to Grind Out Results

CAPTAIN Brianna Westrup shared her delight as Rangers came away from Motherwell with three points and a clean sheet this afternoon.

It was a difficult match for the Gers with Lizzie Arnot’s goal proving to be the difference, but Westrup says it is important the squad can still pick-up three points despite not playing their best.

Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, she said: “I think the whole team would agree we weren't at our best today and Motherwell did a really good job of executing their game plan and breaking up play.

“The most important thing is we got a win, we got three points at the end of the day it doesn't really matter how we do it but we will take what we can from the game and we will analyse it.

“I think that is something last season we weren't as good at and this season we have been tested and we have had to grind out results so it is good for the squad. Obviously we would like to be firing on all cylinders at all times but we just have to keep going and keep securing the three points.”

The centre-back was pleased with the clean sheet but praised the whole squad for their defensive efforts. She continued: “I think Megan [Cunningham] did a good job coming in as goalkeeper today and for the back four we just try to keep a clean sheet every day, every training session we hate conceding.

“We are obviously thrilled with that as a back line but as a team as whole because our press starts from our forward players so they have a big shift to do in our defensive work too.”

Heading into an international break, Westrup says hard work will continue at Rangers Training Centre while a number of players travel away with their country.

She said: “A lot of our players get to go away on international duty which is amazing for the girls and the club for them to go away and get that experience. They'll be working hard and we just have to keep working away here.

“It might be a bit more individualised and the girls can work on things they want to work on and hopefully we have some people getting back healthy and we will be ready for the next match.”
