Lizzie Arnot’s second-half strike saw the Light Blues come away from Alliance Park with a 1-0 victory, and the Gers boss was happy with the way his side dealt with the challenge.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time he said: “We knew it was going to be difficult coming here. It is a tight pitch and Motherwell came at us, they fought for everything, they broke the game up and they made it difficult.
“We never really got into any rhythm at all in the first-half but I think overall the resilience of the girls was brilliant, we stayed calm and collected and to finally get the goal was satisfying.
Thomson felt the experienced players had a huge role this afternoon as Rangers continued their unbeaten league run.
He added: “Getting the goal gave us that bit more control in a sense and the weather calmed down a bit as well which made it a bit better to play football but I am really proud of what the girls have done today.
“There were lots of good performances but I think the experience in the squad has really helped us. It is not always just about on the ball it is about handling situations and controlling the game and I thought our experienced players really gave us that today.”
The three points saw Rangers secure a UEFA Women’s Champions League spot for next season, with the top two teams in SWPL 1 entering European competition.
Thomson continued: “It is massive for the club to get a slot in Europe but ultimately we will crack on with the league. We want to go and finish as strong and as high up in the league as we can.”
