Wilkinson Highlights Rangers Mentality

KATIE WILKINSON highlighted the mentality within the Rangers ranks after they produced an important victory in league action today.

On SPWPL duty for the first time since the turn of the year, the Gers held off Hibs 2-1 to seal a vital three points and claim a seventh win on the spin.

Speaking to RangersTV having opened the scoring on the day, the striker said: “Good individual displays? I think that is massive, we spoke a lot in the week about individually as being on it first and foremost.

“Then coming together as a group and really playing them out of the game, being together pushing on.

“That showed today, the mentality of the girls just to see the game out as well when it was getting a little bit tough.

“Each week that goes by we are pushing and pushing each other to be better so it is a massive three points for us today.

“Got the job done but we go back in tomorrow and prepare right ready for Sunday.”

The top goalscorer reflected on the 90 minutes overall in Cumbernauld, feeling the hosts were in control throughout but feels they could have made the win more comfortable.

She continued: “I think first half in out and possession I thought we were in control.

“They had a little bit of the ball in the first half which I thought we kind of had to weather that storm but still felt really in control.

“Limited their chances and then we are creating a lot of own chances.

“Then put a couple of chances away 2-0 up into half time I thought that game just before half time was massive for to go out into the second half and then just see it through really.

“It is a difficult one when you are down to 10 players in the opposition because they are throw bodies in different positions, try and create overloads all over the pitch and it throws kind of different things for us to adapt too.

“We did that, would we have liked a clean sheet yes we would, would we have liked to have added to the scoreline yes but the most important thing is we got the three points.

“We go back in tomorrow and put in a good week of work ready for Sunday.”

The win now sets up a crucial clash against leaders Glasgow City in seven days’ time, with Wilkinson saying attention now switches to that clash and an opportunity to cut the gap at the top to just four points.

She added: “Our heads were completely on today. Going into tomorrow and the week ahead we will obviously start to look at what Sunday looks like.

“Again another big game, they are going to come thick and fast now.

“We can take confidence from today and really go after the game on Sunday.”
