Women's International Roundup

RANGERS have had a number of players involved in international duty over the past week with several international friendlies taking place.

Here is a roundup of who was involved and how they got on:

Jenna Fife, Nicola Docherty, Rachel McLauchlan, Kirsty Maclean, Brogan Hay – Scotland

  • Scotland 3-0 Northern Ireland- International Friendly

  • Finland 1-2 Scotland- International Friendly

It was a successful break for the Scots in the squad as Pedro Martinez Losa’s side claimed back to back victories over Northern Ireland and Finland respectively.

There were minutes for full-back Nicola Docherty who played the entirety of the contest at the Kilmac Stadium in Dundee as well as a substitute appearance for fellow defender Rachel McLauchlan.

There was also a special moment on the night for 18-year-old Kirsty Maclean who made her senior international debut for her country replacing Caroline Weir with 11 minutes of the contest left to play.

They went on to make it two wins from two in the break with a victory in Tampere on Tuesday evening with the trio all featuring once again in a 2-1 victory.

Scotland are warming up for their UEFA Nations League campaign getting underway in impressive fashion with fixtures against England and Belgium in September to come.

Megan Bell - Northern Ireland

  • Scotland 3-0 Northern Ireland- International Friendly

  • Czech Republic 0-2 Northern Ireland- International Friendly

Megan featured from the substitutes bench in the defeat to the Scots on Friday evening as she came up against several of her club teammates.

Angela Platt’s side responded in impressive four days later however as they claimed a 2-0 victory over the Czech’s with the Gers midfielder starting the contest on the night.

Northern Ireland are also getting preparation under their belt for their own nations league campaign kicking off where they will face Republic of Ireland and Albania in the next break.

Victoria Esson- New Zealand

  • New Zealand 1-0 Italy- International Friendly

New Zealand were victorious in their final fixture before co-hosting this summer’s FIFA Women’s World Cup Finals as they claimed a 1-0 win over Italy on Friday morning.

The Rangers shot stopper started the match and played 46 minutes in their last warm-up match as they prepare for the tournament getting underway this Thursday.

Jitka Klimkova’s side will kick-off the competition with a group match against Norway on July 20 with fixtures against Philippines and Switzerland to follow.
