The 18-year-old typically lines up on the right-hand side of the defence, but he was switched to play on the opposite flank owing to the involvement of the more senior Adam Devine.
The youngster linked up tremendously well with Alex Lowry ahead of him, and he believes the change of role will only serve to aid his development as a defender.
Speaking to RangersTV after the victory, Hutton commented: "I've been playing left-back in the last few games because Adam Devine has been playing right-back.
"I'll do whatever to get onto the pitch. I'm happy and confident at left-back, and wherever Malky [Thomson] and David [McCallum] want me to play then I will.
"I've played in central defence a few times too, but it's similar as a full-back whether you're on the right or left-hand side.
"I know the basics of playing full-back and I'm still confident even though I need to use my left foot more.
"You need to be confident taking the ball on your left foot when you receive the ball, but there isn't much difference apart from that.
"Myself and Alex have a really good relationship. I understand that he wants the ball to feet when we play, and he wants to go one-versus-one.
"It's about just adapting my game to his game to benefit the team.
"These players have experience. It's good to play alongside them and base yourself from there; understand their confidence and demeanour on the pitch."
It was an entertaining and eventful game at a rain-soaked Rangers Training Centre, with the Light Blues racing out to an early lead courtesy of a brace from Findlay Curtis.
However, Middlesbrough responded to level the contest 3-3 at the interval despite Josh Gentles adding to his side's advantage.
The second half ushered in a more defensively controlled display from Rangers, who found the all-important fourth goal with less than ten minutes remaining from the penalty spot.
He added: "I thought the performance was very good. We controlled large spells of the game, but there were just a few silly mistakes throughout the match which cost us goals.
"But we bounced back from that well and managed to win the game.
"The goals were disappointing, but that happens sometimes in football. It's just about how you bounce back from those goals.
"You can always fix the mistakes, but often they just happen in football. It's about how you bounce back and how many goals you can get.
"We were controlling the first half and playing well. We could have scored a couple more goals as we had a lot more chances than they did.
"The message at half-time was about taking more of our chances, while we needed to tidy up on the defensive side."
