The Light Blues were pegged back twice on the evening before running out eventual 3-2 winners over rivals Celtic at the City Stadium.
Speaking to RangersTV after the match, the full-back said: “It is a brilliant win for the lads, we went through spells in the game where it was quite tough, but we came out victorious so we are happy.
“It was quite high speed, it always is.
“Always in Old Firms it is quite high speed in the first 10 or 20 minutes it is always fast, but it is just about settling into the game.
“I think the first goal going 1-0 up settled us down a wee bit.
“Obviously they scored but once Cole scored it was kind of stages in the game where you settle in, but when they scored again they get the momentum so we are kind of on the back foot but Zak's goal at the end gave us the win.
“The boys were excellent, there was obviously those tough stages in the game that we had to dig through as a team, but I think the positivity in the group that is what got us through.”
“For a good 20 minutes we were pinned back and we were struggling to get out of our own box.
“As soon as Zak scored that goal, I knew when he was through on goal he was always going to score and as soon as he scored that goal that was us, I always knew we were going to win the game.”
The young defender shared a flank with first teamer Oscar Cortes on the night for the opening 45 minutes, as she spoke of having a player of that quality helping him through the game.
He continued: “It is good to have experienced first team players that have been through it.
“They have been in first teams for years now, they understand how to settle down the game and you just take the experience from them.
“Having Oscar in front of me it was kind of just easy, just talking me through the game and giving me options at all times so it was good.”
The 18-year-old says those involved in last season’s Youth Cup final win at Under-18 level used that experience to help them get their hands on further silverware.
He added: “Obviously the Youth Cup last season was a great win for us and the boys against Aberdeen and then it was just kind of taking that experience into this game as well.
“Finals can be quite nerve racking before you get on the pitch but once you get on the pitch you just settle and kind of play your game and it is good to add silverware to my stats.”
