After last week’s opening stanza in Poland, where Dynamo Kyiv prevailed by a 3-2 scoreline after Coben Fergusson netted in stoppage time for the young Gers, the Under-19s welcome the Ukrainian outfit to Forthbank Stadium this midweek.
Speaking to RangersTV to reflect on the balance of the second round tie, the midfielder said: “It was a big goal.
“We've got Wednesday to come and we're at home, so it's a big goal in terms of the aggregate score that we have taken back.
“Overall, the goals we conceded weren't good enough at that point. The times we conceded really early on, straight before half-time and then straight through on our goal, was frustrating.
“The second goal was a big goal and it probably keeps us in it for the second leg.
“We were definitely the better team and all the boys put in a really good shift, so you can’t fault us on that part.
“It was definitely the least we deserved. Probably going off the game, we should have won it.
“It was just the mistakes at the back that cost us, but I think the second goal really helps us and that's going to be a big one for this week when we're at home.
“Hopefully for Wednesday we can tighten up on the goals we've conceded and I think we'll be all right.”
Tickets are on sale now for the second leg at Forthbank on Wednesday evening, which kicks off at 7pm.
A place in the final qualifying round to face the winners of AZ Alkmaar's tie with Turkish side Göztepe awaits the victors.
McCallion added: “Dynamo Kyiv are a good side and have a few boys that we've played against before with Ukraine, so you know there are a few good players.
“This is what you want. I think the best part about it is we've shown that we're good enough to play at this level.
“We're all good enough to play at this level and compete with them.
“Hopefully we get some fans along [on Wednesday]. We're at home and it’s 3-2, so we're definitely right in the tie.
"Hopefully we can get the win and get us through to the next round.”
