It will be 20 days since the Gers were last in action when Kilmarnock visit Ibrox on Saturday afternoon, with the side having rounded off the block of games before the first set of international fixtures with six successive victories.
The last of those, an away win at Parkhead earned through a Ryan Naderi strike, is still fresh in the memory, and McInnes says it’s important that his side continue to strive for improvement.
Speaking to the media to preview the visit of Neil McCann’s side, he commented: “I think it helped getting into the Celtic games on the back of getting those four wins and finding some sort of encouragement and confidence going into it.
“I thought we looked ready for the Celtic games and the Celtic games were obviously two big wins for us.
“It's unusual you get such a fixture back-to-back like that and obviously home and away.
“We dealt with both games, but we're only just into the infancy of the season.
"We're going to get judged over a period of months, not just one month and a few weeks.
“Everybody's under no illusions about us having to keep the shoulder to the wheel and keep cracking on to get those improvements.”
The side’s impressive form last month was recognised this morning when McInnes swooped the Scottish Premiership Manager of the Month award and Olwethu Makhanya took home the Player of the Month equivalent.
On picking up the prize, McInnes continued: “I think any individual award, whether it's to players or a manager, it normally illustrates a lot of things, but particularly strong team performances and what the players produce on the pitch.
“But there's a full staff behind me and a full staff behind the players that gives the players the best chance.
“There was a lot of soul-searching at the start of the season, a lot of unconvincing performances.
“I think what we've had is a bit of certainty, a bit of consistency on that side of it.
"With that has come some positive results, which has helped matters. For us now, it's just trying to maintain that.”
Rangers had a host of players representing their countries over the last three weeks.
And ahead of the resumption of club football, McInnes provided an injury update on his squad.
He added: “Dujon [Sterling] had a little hamstring strain, but he's been fine.
“He's been training, and he's one that's benefited from the break.
"If the break had been just a normal two weeks, he'd probably still have made it last weekend, but the extra time has helped.
“Cammy [Devlin], unfortunately, picked up a little hamstring strain.
“I think it was two or three minutes onto the pitch against Celtic when he gave me the shout, which was no use to me because we had no subs left and we had to see the game out!
“But thankfully, we managed to manage the game with Cammy.
"He's since been scanned and assessed, and unfortunately he's got a hamstring issue that we thought might have required surgery, but it doesn't.
“He got a decent consultation yesterday, but he's still going to be out for a number of weeks, at least for the next six, then we'll see where we are from there.”
