Leanne Crichton: Consistency Is Key

LEANNE Crichton was pleased with the performance levels on show from her side in the second half as Rangers came from behind to secure a 2-1 victory over Glasgow City at Petershill Park.

The Gers made it nine consecutive wins thanks to goals from Laura Berry and Katie Wilkinson, extending their lead at the top of the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League.

Knowing the challenge that awaited her side at Petershill Park, the head coach acknowledged the disappointment of the first-half performance but was pleased with the reaction after the break.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Crichton said: “The objective for coming here tonight, knowing how difficult it would be, was to make sure we didn't lose the game.

“Off the back of our first half performance, we were really disappointed at half-time.

“We just had to be better all over the pitch. We knew City were going to try and latch on to us, look to try and turn us early with the pace that they've got in the top line.

“Then to get the players in at half-time was a really good opportunity to reset for us.

“I thought it was a big reaction in terms of their character and how we came out at the start of the second half.

“I think you could feel the energy change as soon as the players stepped out of the dressing room.

“Not too much between the teams, but as I say, moments are what win you games. We had another one of them tonight.”

Those decisive moments arrived as Berry showed her striker’s instinct to level the scores before Wilkinson produced a moment of magic to complete the comeback and secure all three points.

Pleased with the overall team performance, Crichton was particularly impressed with the contribution of her forward partnership, who stepped up when the Gers needed them most.

She added: “I think Laura was fantastic in her work tonight.

“For Laura to get us back level, it’s a huge turning point in the game because we wanted that early goal. We wanted to get back level. She gave us that.

“Wilkinson is the other one in terms of that strike partnership that we've got. She has been so good for us.

“Thankfully, those two players stood up. Overall, really pleased in terms of all the individual performances.”

With the season gathering momentum, Rangers will now look to build on their impressive run of form as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast.

Attention swiftly turns to Sunday’s return to Broadwood Stadium, where Motherwell await in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League.

Crichton is keen for her side to carry the confidence from another hard-fought victory into the next challenge, while maintaining the consistency that has underpinned their strong start to the campaign.

She continued: “We'll quickly switch the focus. We'll take the momentum, the feel-good factors that winning these types of games give you.

“Everybody knows that at this football club, you don't get to celebrate wins. You get to enjoy them in the moment.

“Consistency has been the top performer this season across the board.

“Staff and players have been fantastic. We just need to try to continue that now.”
