Goals from Ryan Naderi and Dan Neil sealed the points this evening, and the manager was impressed with what he saw from his team.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, he said: “It was a well-deserved win, it's not an easy place to come. When you go away from home in the Premiership, there are certain attributes you need and you need to make sure they're there in abundance, I thought we had that.
“I thought we started the game far better than St Mirren. I thought we were bright, I thought we were tenacious and I thought we were aggressive in our work.
“We mixed the game up with playing in behind them and finding the spaces when they dropped off and we engaged with our strikers at the right times.
“My wide players, we asked a lot of them, but they really contributed and I thought when we were good, we were very good but obviously, we didn't get the goals that some of our play deserved.
“We get the goal from the penalty kick and Ryan tucks it away brilliantly and for five or ten minutes after that, I didn't like a lot of what I saw. I just thought we got a wee bit too comfortable for my liking and we needed to get back on the job.
"I thought we were a better team in the second half. Albeit, with the game still 1-0, the gaps were a bit too big at times.
“I think I've been nit-picking with a lot of that, there's certain things we can improve on."
With a clean sheet in Paisley, and some big moments from Ivor Pandur, McInnes was full of praise for his goalkeeper.
He continued: “I said earlier in the week that we're so fortunate to have him. I think he's such a clean goalkeeper in the sense that he never really looks as if he's in bother.
“He always looks as if he's in control of the situation. He came for a couple of crosses, his distribution was brilliant, he's alert for the ball over the top and when he needed to make a couple of saves, he was there. He's been a brilliant signing.
“We just hope he can get some game time when he’s away with Croatia and comes back in good health but he's a big part of us getting so many clean sheets this season.
“By and large, he should be really pleased with his work as we all are tonight.
“We're pleased that we've managed to come to a tough place and win the game and I thought individually we had a lot of good performers tonight.”
With it now the international break, McInnes felt it was important to sign-off with the victory.
He continued: “If you don't win the game, it lingers. The two weeks can be tough because there will be just a build-up of frustration and disappointment so we spoke about that ahead of the game.
“It was important that when the players go away with their countries, that they feel good about tonight's work. It goes into the second chunk of 11 games now that will take us to the halfway point and we've set some targets that we want to do.
“Part of the target is winning more games away from home and we've got a points tally we want to try and get to and I thought that's a good start for us tonight.”
