The captain added to Ryan Naderi’s first-half penalty as the Light Blues defeated St Mirren 2-0 in Paisley.
As well as picking up three points, making it ten wins and two draws in the last 12 games in all competitions, Neil was pleased for the squad to record a clean sheet.
Speaking exclusively to RangersTV, he said: “I am buzzing with the win.
“Going into the international break with a good result was really important for us.
“We spoke about that before the game, we got another clean sheet and that is important too and everyone contributed to that.
“Coming away from home is tough in any league, but especially this one, and credit to St Mirren, they were good in parts.
“I think we stood up to be counted for and we wanted to bounce back from the last two away draws with a win.
“That starts with the clean sheet and all the boys played their part.
“As I said, any away game is tough and our away form hasn’t been fantastic. We picked up points but we want to win every game.
“We had to use this game before the break to get three points and the boys put in a hell of a shift to get that.”
Naderi tucked home a first half spot-kick after James Penrice was brought down inside the area.
With an hour on the clock Neil then stepped forward to notch his first league goal for the club, with the aid of a deflection.
The midfielder knows it wasn’t the best goal of his career, but believes it was important as it helped Derek McInnes’ men to see out the match.
He added: “It wasn’t my best strike but we were attacking and I supported the play and my eyes lit up as it dropped. It wasn’t my cleanest connection but I will take it.
“We spoke in previous games about not finishing them off and getting that second goal when it becomes more comfortable.
“In games we have been 1-0 up and missed chances so to make it 2-0 made it comfortable and we could enjoy the last part of the game.”
