Report: Rangers 4-0 Motherwell

251026 Rangers Wfc v Motherwell
RANGERS made it ten consecutive victories in the ScottishPower Women’s Premier League as they ran out convincing 4-0 winners over Motherwell at Broadwood Stadium this afternoon.

Calliste Brookshire opened the scoring directly from a corner before Laura Berry doubled the advantage just before half-time. Brogan Hay then struck twice after the restart to complete a dominant afternoon for the Light Blues.

With fixtures across Scotland postponed due to an amber weather warning for high winds, Rangers and Motherwell were the only sides in action in the league this afternoon.

Leanne Crichton made four changes to the side that secured a dramatic comeback victory over Glasgow City at Petershill Park in midweek, with Bailley Collins, Lily Boyce, Sophie Black and Hay coming into the starting lineup.

Rangers made a bright start at Broadwood and came close to opening the scoring when Hay delivered a dangerous ball into the box for Collins, who connected with the cross but fired narrowly wide of the post.

The Light Blues continued to press, with May Cruft switching play out wide to Hay, who sent a low ball across the face of goal. Berry was unable to make contact as the delivery ran out for a corner.

Brookshire stepped up to deliver the resulting set-piece, with her corner causing problems in the Motherwell box. With the wind adding to the difficulty for the visitors’ defence, the ball found its way directly into the net to give Rangers the lead.

Berry doubled the advantage just before the interval as Nicola Docherty delivered another dangerous ball into the box. Katie Wilkinson got a touch before Motherwell goalkeeper Kayla Scott spilled the ball, allowing Berry to react quickest and fire home from close range.

Rangers carried their momentum into the second half and extended their lead within a minute of the restart. Brookshire delivered the ball into the box, where it fell to Hay, who made no mistake from inside the area.

The Light Blues continued to push for further goals, with Wilkinson stepping up from the penalty spot, but Scott produced the save to deny her.

Berry then tested the Motherwell goalkeeper from distance, with Scott doing well to keep the effort out. However, Hay reacted quickest to the rebound, firing home to complete her brace and seal an emphatic 4-0 victory for Rangers.

Sarah Ewens also made a welcome return to action, coming off the bench late on after an extended spell on the sidelines through injury.

Attention now turns to the Sky Sports Cup, as Rangers return to Broadwood Stadium to take on Partick Thistle.
