A Cyriel Dessers hat-trick and goals from Clinton Nsiala and Ross McCausland saw Gers comfortably into the hat for tomorrow evening’s draw.
From the midweek victory over Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership, there were seven changes to the starting line-up, including a first-team debut for goalkeeper Mason Munn.
Clement also handed a first start of the season to Zak Lovelace as he gave some young players the opportunity to impress in the cup.
Munn lined up in goal behind a back four of James Tavernier, Robin Propper, Clinton Nsiala and Jefte. Connor Barron, Mohamed Diomande and Nedim Bajrami were in midfield, while Lovelace joined Ross McCausland in support of striker Cyriel Dessers.
Rangers showed their intent from the start, with Fraserburgh goalkeeper Joe Barbour forced into a save after just 30 seconds as Ross McCausland struck towards goal from inside the area but it was a good block from the visiting number one.
There were half chances for the Light Blues in the opening 20 minutes, with Dessers and Bajrami both having efforts off target as they continued to search for the breakthrough.
With 28 minutes on the clock, the goal did come, as Rangers took advantage from a set-piece. Captain James Tavernier whipped an inviting delivery into the box from a corner, with Cyriel Dessers heading into the ground and beyond Joe Barbour for his 14th goal of the season.
Tavernier almost found the target himself just minutes later with a powerful hit from distance which clipped the bar.
The woodwork again denied Rangers in the 37th minute as Jefte did well to drive forward from left back to get into the box and send a low left footed shot towards goal but the goalkeeper got a crucial touch which knocked it onto the post and out for a Rangers corner.
Fraserburgh had their first chance of the game before half-time as Mason Munn’s ball out was intercepted by Scott Barbour but the striker sent it across goal and wide of the left-hand post.
Into the second-half, there was a second goal for Rangers and a first for the club for Clinton Nsiala. Bajrami had the ball on the edge of the box and played it across the area to Nsiala in space, and the centre-back struck a superb left-footed shot into the back of the net.
Five minutes later, the Light Blues extended their advantage in another good attacking move from Clement’s men. Ross McCausland was involved down the right and found Bajrami who sent the ball into the mix in the box, with Dessers on hand at the back post to tap home his second of the afternoon.
With an hour played at Ibrox, there were three changes as Rangers introduced some more youngsters to the game. Findlay Curtis came on for his debut, alongside 18-year-old midfielder Bailey Rice, with Ridvan also coming on.
Curtis came close with a looping effort towards goal as he almost got the perfect start to his first Rangers appearance, but it was just high of the target, before he had a strike saved by Barbour shortly after.
There was a fourth goal for Rangers in the 74th minute, this time the move coming down the left-flank, with Jefte and Findlay Curtis combining. Curtis played a nice ball forward to Cyriel Dessers and the striker sent the ball back across the face of goal with Ross McCausland finding the finish at the back post.
Dessers hit the post with a header which denied the striker his hat-trick in the final minutes of the 90, before Bailey Rice curled a shot just inches wide of the target.
The striker did get his hat-trick in the 91st minute, the ball was played through to Dessers who made a good run into the box and from a tight angle found the finish.
