Hamza Igamane, Vaclav Cerny and Mohamed Diomande were all on target in the Scottish Premiership match, before Jack Saunders got one back for the visitors in the second-half.
From Thursday’s game against Dundee there were two changes to the starting line-up as Nico Raskin returned from suspension to captain the side, while Danilo also came in. Connor Barron and Nedim Bajrami were named on the bench,
That meant Rangers lined-up with Liam Kelly in goal behind a back four of Ridvan, Robin Propper, Clinton Nsiala and Jefte. Raskin was in midfield alongside Mohamed Diomande and Ianis Hagi while Danilo, Vaclav Cerny and on-form striker Hamza Igamane completed the line-up.
It was the fourth meeting of the sides this season, with Rangers coming out on top in the previous three games against the Perth side.
St Johnstone got the match underway, and it was the home side with the early pressure as a series of corners in the opening five minutes provided attacking opportunities for Clement’s men.
Hamza Igamane came close and had the first shot on target for Rangers as he turned a Jefte shot towards goal, but it was gathered by Andrew Fisher.
It wasn’t long though until Rangers found the breakthrough, with Igamane getting the opening goal with 16 minutes on the clock. A throw-in from Danilo was sent towards Cerny, who picked out Diomande at the byline. The midfielder did well to look up and spot Igamane in a central position and the Moroccan made no mistake in finding the back of the net with his sixth goal in five games.
A quick second followed and it was another good bit of build-up play from the Light Blues. Robin Propper did well to win the ball back on the half-way line with a good tackle, before Danilo found the run of Cerny. Through on goal, the Czech winger showed his composure to send the ball low beyond Fisher.
Rangers were in control at Ibrox, as Igamane saw another good strike deflected wide for a corner.
It was a fantastic start and Rangers got their rewards once again with a third goal in the 25th minute. This time it was Jefte who drove forward from defence to launch the attack, before sending it out wide to Cerny on the right. Jack Sanders attempted to clear the cross from Cerny, but could only send it into the path of Diomande who headed home for his fourth goal of the season.
Into the second-half, and Rangers returned with the same tempo as they looked for an early goal after the break. Danilo and Cerny combined again, with the former getting a left-footed shot away but it was gathered by Fisher.
With 54 minutes on the clock, St Johnstone had a goal back from a corner. The ball was whipped into the box by Max Kucheriavyi, and Saunders got enough of a touch to send it beyond Kelly.
Clement turned to his bench for the first time of the afternoon with 64 minutes played, as Cyriel Dessers and Oscar Cortes came on to replace Hamza Igamane and Vaclav Cerny.
Just seconds after being introduced, Cortes almost added his name to the scoresheet as space opened up for him just inside the box but his low curling left-footed shot was saved by Fisher.
Another change followed for Rangers, as Ross McCausland came on in place of Ianis Hagi for the final 15 minutes at Ibrox.
Josh McPake, who had been introduced for the visitors, curled a shot wide as they continued to look for a route back into this match.
Clement made his final two changes with just a couple of minutes of the 90 remaining as Leon King and Kieran Dowell came on to replace Ridvan and Danilo.
With five minutes added on at Ibrox, St Johnstone continued to try and find a route back into this game but were unable to cause Rangers any problems in the final stages.
Attention now turns to Aberdeen at Ibrox on Wednesday evening.
