RANGERS beat Glasgow City 5-0 this afternoon in their final SWPL game before the winter break.

Goals from Megan Bell, Kirsty Howat and Zoe Ness had Rangers three goals ahead at the interval, with second-half strikes from Lizzie Arnot and Carly Girasoli rounding off the scoring.

Glasgow City had the first real chance of the game on the 7th minute as a long ball over to top found the run of Clare Shine one-on-one with Jenna Fife. The Gers number one came off her line to block Shine’s effort before the danger was cleared.

Sam Kerr picked up on a loose ball from Glasgow City just minutes later as she drove towards the box before laying the ball off to Rachel McLauchlan who found Lizzie Arnot but her dangerous ball across the face of goal was cleared for a Rangers corner.

Rangers had the lead on the 19th minute as Megan Bell made it two goals in two games since her return from injury.

Rachel McLauchlan picked out Bell in space inside the box and the Northern Ireland international took a touch around the Glasgow City defender before curling a right-footed effort into the back of the net.

Clare Shine threatened for Glasgow City just a minute later, but her effort from outside the box was held comfortably by Jenna Fife.

Kirsty Howat saw her effort hit the side netting as Rangers worked an opening from a throw in down the left.

The Gers were two ahead just after the half-hour mark after some well worked build-up play. Nicola Docherty was in space down the left to deliver a dangerous cross into the box which was fired beyond Lee Alexander by Kirsty Howat.

Nicole Robertson hit the woodwork for City before half-time as her cross clipped the bar before the danger was cleared.

In an impressive first-half display from the Gers, Zoe Ness added a third goal before the break.

Kirsty Howat picked out Ness with a lovely ball forward and the Rangers number 9 lobbed the ball over Lee Alexander.

Just five minutes into the second-half Rangers made it four.

Substitute Brogan Hay made a great run down the right before picking out the run of Arnot inside the box and the Gers forward tapped it home from close range.

Mairead Fulton’s shot was held by Jenna Fife as she tried an effort from distance for the home side.

Lizzie Arnot did well to win the ball back in the box as the Gers continued to put pressure on Glasgow City. It broke for Kirsty Howat but her shot was cleared for a corner.

From the resulting corner, Rangers added a fifth as Lizzie Arnot’s delivery was almost turned into her own net by Lee Alexander before Carly Girasoli got the ball over the line.
