From Northern Ireland, McCausland is a graduate of the Rangers Academy.

His emergence into the first-team set-up came under Philippe Clement where he scored in European action against Aris Limassol, whom he later joined on loan.

McCausland also won his first piece of silverware with the club as he started the 1-0 League Cup final win over Aberdeen in December 2023.
