Academy International Round-Up

IT has been a busy week for the Rangers Academy on the international front as a number of players proudly represented their nations over the last ten days.

Here’s our round up of who was involved and how they fared.

Alex Lowry – Scotland Under-21s

Spain Under-21s 1-0 Scotland Under-21s - Monday, September 11 - UEFA Euro Under-21 Qualifier

Alongside Leon King, Alex was called into the Scotland Under-21s squad for the opening game of their UEFA Euro Under-21 qualifying campaign away to Spain.

Scot Gemmill’s side suffered a late sting in the tail when the home side netted seven minutes from time to secure a 1-0 victory, with Alex consigned to a place on the substitutes bench.

The young side will now prepare to host Hungary and Malta at Fir Park next month as they look to return to winning ways.

Ross McCausland – Northern Ireland Under-21s

Northern Ireland Under-21s 0-1 Luxembourg Under-21s - Thursday, September 7 - UEFA Euro Under-21 Qualifier

Ukraine Under-21s 1-0 Northern Ireland Under-21s - Tuesday, September 12 - UEFA Euro Under-21 Qualifier

Ross was called into the Northern Ireland Under-21s squad as they got their qualifying campaign for the Under-21 European Championships underway.

The 20-year-old was a second half substitute as Tommy Wright’s young side fell to a narrow home defeat to Luxembourg, before he played the final six minutes as a strong Ukraine side ran out winners in Slovakia.

The Green and White Army will aim to put the disappointment behind them as they host San Marino and Slovenia next month.

Bailey Rice and Greig Allen – Scotland Under-19s

Belgium Under-19s 3-0 Scotland Under-19s - Wednesday, 6 September – Friendly Tournament

Scotland Under-19s 2-2 Czech Republic Under-19s - Saturday, September 9 – Friendly Tournament

Bailey and Greig were called up to the Scotland Under-19s squad for their two friendly matches in Belgium.

The young side tasted defeat in their opening match against the hosts, with Bailey starting and playing 66 minutes in the contest.

Both players then started the subsequent 2-2 draw against Czech Republic, with an 85th minute equaliser denying Scotland victory after goals from Alfie Bavidge and Ryan One.

Mason Munn – Northern Ireland Under-19s

Italy Under-19s 3-2 Northern Ireland Under-19s – Thursday, 7 September – International Friendly

Mason was selected for the Northern Ireland Under-19s squad for the first time as Gareth McAuley’s side fell to a narrow defeat in Italy.

The 17-year-old goalkeeper started on the substitutes bench and will now look to continue his impressive club form as Northern Ireland themselves prepare to host the UEFA Under-19s European Championships next summer.

Archie Stevens – England Under-18s

England Under-18s 0-4 Japan Under-18s - Friday, September 8 – Tournoi International

Portugal Under-18s 2-1 England Under-18s – Sunday, September 10 – Tournoi International

Archie was a late call up to the England Under-18s squad as they faced a three-game series at the Tournoi International in France.

The 17-year-old missed the opening defeat to France, while he was an unused substitute in the defeat to Japan two days later.

However, the attacker was given the nod from the off in the concluding match against Portugal, with the Three Lions unfortunate not to emerge with a draw as they conceded a stoppage time winner.
