Chelsea Cornet Goal Nets Gers The Win In Edinburgh

RANGERS made it three wins from three in the SWPL with an impressive 1-0 victory away to Hibs this afternoon.

Chelsea Cornet’s 75th minute goal was enough for the Gers as they took all three points in Edinburgh.

Malky Thomson named two changes to his side from last weekend’s 1-0 victory over Spartans with Chelsea Cornet and Daina Bourma coming into the starting eleven in place of Brogan Hay and Bala Devi who were on the bench.

Rangers remained patient in the early stages of the game as they looked to build a route to goal. Full-back’s Nicola Docherty and Emma Brownlie were playing their usual high line as they looked to provide an extra string of attack for the Gers.

Despite controlling the majority of possession in the opening 20 minutes, Rangers failed to really trouble Hibs goalkeeper Sophie Allison.

Hibs broke up the Rangers’ half on the 29th minute as Amy Muir drove down the right before a dangerous cross into the box from Amy Gallacher but it's was cleared well by Brianna Westrup.

Lizzie Arnot had a shot from distance deflected wide for a corner, before Nicola Docherty tried a long range effort which was held well by Sophie Allison.

Hibs came close to breaking the deadlock on the 39th minute as a free-kick swung into the box by Rachael Boyle met the head of Charlotte Potts and bounced back off the crossbar. Into the second half, Zoe Ness curled an effort just over the bar as both teams continued to search for a breakthrough.

Malky Thomson made the first change to his side on the hour mark as Brogan Hay replaced Daina Bourma.

Lizzie Arnot’s cross met Hay at the edge of the box but it was blocked by Leah Eddie before Eilidh Adams had a shot at the other end but Jenna Fife held comfortably.

Rangers got the break through on the 75th minute of the game. Kirsten Reilly played the ball out wide to Brogan Hay who used her pace to beat the offside trap and run into space down the right. Hay delivered a dangerous cross into the box, which was tapped home by Chelsea Cornet.

Almost instantly up the other end Jenna Fife produced a great save to deny Rachael Boyle as she blocked a close range effort with her feet.

Hibs searched for an equaliser in the dying stages of the game but Rangers held strong to make it three wins from three in the league.
