The midfielder opened the scoring early in the second-half before Robbie Ure sealed the victory for David McCallum’s side at Ainslie Park.
Speaking to RangersTV at full-time, McKinnon said: “We couldn't have started any better, that's two games now and two clean sheets in a home game and an away game so it just shows we can go away as well and still get the result we need.
“Patience was key, it was the same in the last game as well when it was 0-0 at half-time. We knew coming here we had to be patient and those goals would come and we knew they would tire.
“Fair play to Spartans they did keep on going in the second-half but we knew the goals would come as long as we played the football we know we can play.
“The boys are coping well with the physical side, we are doing our gym work and physical work at the training ground. Spartans were a good, big side and throughout the team we dealt with that well.”
With a crowd of 454 inside Ainslie Park, including a number of Rangers supporters, McKinnon hopes the fans can continue to spur on the young Gers.
He continued: “I didn't expect there to be so many fans but even scoring the goal when the fans get behind you it just makes you want to go again. I think if that keeps coming then we can keep on pushing ourselves and go further.”
