The Scottish Premiership will commence tomorrow as the Light Blues head to Almondvale Stadium to take on David Martindale’s side, and the Dutchman has insisted that consistency is key for the challenges ahead.
Speaking at this afternoon’s press conference, he commented: “The target is very clear, it’s to become champions of Scotland. Tomorrow is the first game of 38 and the message is clear, it’s to go out, enjoy, push on and work hard to get three points after 90 minutes. We’ll then move onto the next game; we need to be very consistent in all the competitions that we play.”
The boss also took time to mention potential contract extensions for Ryan Kent and Alfredo Morelos and emphasised the key attributes each of them bring to the first team.
“We know the qualities of both Morelos and Ryan and what they bring to the team, they’ve been a part of the squad for many years now. A player like Ryan, his abilities and qualities are on a high level, and talks with him are also happening at the moment to try and extend his contract. It’s the same with Alfredo, hopefully, they can sign new contracts that will keep them at Ibrox for longer than this season.
“Both of them love to be at this club, they’re important players and are loved by everyone involved at this club. They’re more than open to extending if it will come to a deal. I’m very happy with both, they bring quality to the squad and performances to the pitch. Hopefully, they can sign new deals to keep them here longer. The taste in Europe in the last few years will help them, we’re pushing for Champions League this season which will help – I’m happy with them.”

Van Bronckhorst outlined his squad preparations during pre-season to help ensure his team strengthens across each area of the pitch ahead of the new campaign.
He added: “We’re looking at each position in what’s needed, what we already have, and the qualities that we have in the squad. When we are able to recruit new players, you want them to be versatile with different characteristics and strengths so that you can switch.
“Up front, you want to have speed, creativity, and goals. We’ve recruited players who are capable of scoring goals, we had to react to the sale of [Calvin] Bassey and I’m happy with the squad we have.”
