Jorg Albertz: It's Great To Come Back and See the Fans

JORG Albertz is happy that he gets the chance to give something back to the Rangers fans as he takes his place in the Rangers Legends squad for Sunday afternoon’s Weekend of Legends II match.

The full-back makes his return to Glasgow having starred for the club in a five-year spell between 1996 to 2001, winning three league titles alongside four domestic honours, as the two star-studded line-ups go head-to-head at Ibrox this weekend.

Speaking to RangersTV ahead of the match, Albertz says he is excited by the prospect of playing in front of the Ibrox crowd once again and wants to repay the Gers faithful for the support they gave the team during his time at the club: “I’m looking forward to the game, and that means that you meet all of the players again and have a chat about everything, about the past and the present. I can't wait.

“The most important thing for me when I am looking ahead is to step into that tunnel again and run out on that pitch in front of these beautiful supporters. It’s just a dream. It always has been a dream and it will be one for the future as well because of the history of all the players being there. It’s always great to come back and see everybody and run out onto that pitch."

The German is anticipating a game where both sides are eager to come out on top, but he insists that the most important aspect is making the occasion enjoyable for those in the stands.

He continued: “There is not a nicer feeling than standing in the tunnel and going out and hearing the roar. To play in front of these people again, who followed you through your whole football career and gave us so much, it’s really nice to give a little bit back as well to them as well.

“These games are always really competitive; everybody still wants to show what is still left in them. The main priority, I think, should be that although it’s a friendly game, it’s a competitive game that the supporters want to see. The friendships on the pitch and having a big party together with the crowd is the most important thing. I think both teams want to win, and from that point of view it is going to be competitive again.”
