Laura McCartney Delighted To Make A Winning Return

LAURA MCCARTNEY was delighted to make her return from injury this evening as the forward made her first competitive appearance in over 18 months.

The 18-year-old has been recovering from an ACL injury and came on as a second-half substitute to play 20 minutes in this evening’s 4-0 victory over Hearts.

Speaking to RangersTV, she said: “It was very enjoyable. It is obviously very easy with the quality of players but I feel like I have fitted in quite well and it is just good to get minutes back on the pitch and that is credit to everyone that has helped me. It has been a long road but I am just happy to be back.

“It was difficult especially mentally at the start when I couldn't come into the training centre and get into the gym but it is good to be back.

“It is always a goal you have to play competitive matches so I think I just had that in my head at the end.

“It was hard at the start to get my head around and I think it is something you don't quite appreciate unless you have been through it yourself but I think it has definitely made me mentally and physically stronger.

Reflecting on tonight’s game, McCartney added: “I thought it was a good game, I thought we probably had some more chances that we could've converted but I think it shows the squad rotation that we have with the amount of players that came on and the standards we maintained throughout the 90 minutes.”
