Malky Thomson: Team Controlled The Game

MALKY Thomson felt Rangers ‘controlled the game from start to finish’ as they picked up another three points in the SWPL Cup group stage yesterday afternoon.

Doubles from Brogan Hay and Lizzie Arnot and a goal from Jane Ross sealed the 5-0 victory over Motherwell to make it two wins from two in the group.

Speaking to RangersTV after the match, Thomson said: “We controlled the game from start to finish. The objectives we set for the girls before the game were met in both the first half and second half and it is good going forward into the next round of games.

“One of the things we took from last year was making sure that when we do create chances we can convert them and we did that today.

“We are big on learning. We have got to have an appreciation of playing in different positions so that when you do go back in your set position you know what is behind you and what is in front of you and you understand the roles and responsibility.”

Thomson was delighted to hand competitive first-team debuts to Academy players Jodi McLeary and Emma Watson.

Jodi has been part of the youth set-up for 10 years, while Emma has spent the past four at Rangers.

He added: “It is really pleasing, it is a one club and there will be opportunities for certain players this year and they are going to have to meet those challenges, none more so than the two girls that made their debuts today.

“Jodi has been at the club for 10 years now and a lot of hard work and effort has gone in there. I think she started at a soccer school and well done to them because they have put all the hard work in for her to be here playing first-team football and as you can see they weren't out of place.”
