The Light Blues started the game in superb fashion with three goals inside the opening 20 minutes in what was an impressive all-round display.
Speaking to RangersTV after the win, McCallum was delighted with the way they came out the traps and put a real stamp on the game in the early stages: “It was an excellent start, obviously I think every time you come to a game down here now there seems to be a gail force wind going in one direction. We had it in the first half and we really made good of it.
“We made sure the opportunities that we did create that we took them. We were quite ruthless, we were aggressive with how we tried to press.
“The second half is a completely different game. Obviously you go 3-0 up but you still know there is a potential of having to defend a little bit more with the way the wind was going.
“Adding to it the sending off you are having to deal with it differently as well, so two different types of performances from the first to second half but very good in both sides of it.”
McCallum was impressed with the quality of goals on the day which saw the Gers go in at the break in a comfortable position with a 3-0 lead.
He continued: “They were very good goals. Robbie Ure has scored the third one but an excellent bit of play to get him to that point where he goes one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
“Zak [Lovelace] told me before the game that he hadn’t scored in a home game as of yet this season in the league and he was quite keen to get off the mark in that one and he has done that, an excellent finish from a second phase.
“Bailey’s penalty is fantastic - it is as good a penalty as you are going to get, right into the top corner. It put us in a strong position but you still know that with the way the wind was playing, it could cause a bit of a problem.
“The way we played in the second half took the sting out of that and we were still relatively comfortable even though, at times, we had to give up not having the ball at times because we were a man down and the way the conditions were.”
McCallum was also happy at how his side remained a threat in the second half despite going down to ten men after Zak Lovelace’s dismissal.
He said: “You just need to look at the goals that we scored, an excellent goal from Charlie Lindsay, not just the finish but how we got ourselves to that point.
“We encouraged them when we got to the attacking half to not rush when we get to the finish, because the way the game was with the wind it can end up like a game of basketball.
“It would always go back and forward and we didn’t want that, we want to play with control, we did that with ten men then Charlie comes up with that finish which was excellent.
“It takes the sting out of the game a little bit and takes the hope out of Gala at that point.”
