Quintin Young

EVERYONE at Rangers is saddened to have learned of the death of former player, Quintin ‘Cutty’ Young, at the age of 78.

Quintin made over 100 appearances for the club between 1972 and 1976, and netted 37 goals. He won two league titles, a League Cup and a Scottish Cup in his time at Ibrox.

A miner by trade, he was featuring for junior side Kello Rovers before Ally McLeod signed him for Ayr United in 1969. A move to Coventry City in England’s top flight followed, before he got the opportunity to join his boyhood heroes, Rangers, in October 1972. That deal also saw Colin Stein move in the opposite direction.

He scored for Rangers in the first ever (and then unofficial) European Super Cup tie with European champions Ajax, and played in the famous 1973 Scottish Cup final win over Celtic, as well as the 1975 Old Firm League Cup final win.

The thoughts of everyone at Rangers are with Quintin’s family at this sad time.
