The Hall of Famer will assist Barry Ferguson on the touchline after the Gers squad took shape ahead of the iconic event on the weekend of October 3 and 4.
The former midfielder, a legendary figure during the famous nine-in-a-row era, was speaking at a promotional event on Monday morning and believes the Tennent’s Sixes is a fantastic opportunity for the younger generation to witness heroes of the past.
Durrant commented: “It’s an opportunity for kids to come and see some of the older players.
“It’ll be a real good atmosphere, and you can see the anticipation already.
“Perhaps the way that Rangers are playing just now, the [international] break has come at the wrong time!
“But I just hope the fans who come along appreciate what the older boys have done.
"I think the younger ones will be looking forward to seeing the former players because their mums and dads would have been telling them all about it.”
All 12 Premiership teams have signed up to take part in the legends version of the small-sided tournament, with players of the recent past wearing the official club kits of this season.
Ferguson and Durrant will guide a Rangers squad which includes Lee Robinson, Lee McCulloch, Kris Boyd, Charlie Adam, Andy Halliday, Lewis Macleod, Dean Shiels, Alan Gow and Kirk Broadfoot.
He added: “I’m in a coaching capacity in terms of helping Barry, but I’m looking forward to seeing all the players, the likes of Kris Boyd, Lee McCulloch and Kirk Broadfoot.
“There will be a few old, creaky joints, but I’m sure they’re looking forward to it.
“I was privileged when [Barry] asked me to be his assistant. There is still fire in his belly, and he’s looking forward to it.
“I just wish he could have played, as I feel he could have contributed.
“We’re just meeting up with the boys, getting them together, and we’re hoping we can do Rangers justice.”
